Already more than 30 years PUM is playing an important role in the field of international development assistance, sending senior experts to more than 76 countries all over the world. Upon request, PUM’s experts offer their skills and experience to businesses and organisations in places where these are most needed. PUM projects are intensive and generally take two to three weeks.
In the course of their careers, PUM’s experts have gained extensive experience in nearly every field. The experts are independent and work on a voluntary basis (they receive no wages). Since its establishment in 1978, PUM has become Europe’s largest ‘job agency’ for professional volunteers who wish to work in developing countries.

A challenging goal
PUM’s goal can best be defined by the following challenging phrase: Work defeats poverty. The programmes are geared towards fighting poverty and encouraging sustainable development in social free-market economies around the world. This goes hand-in-hand with building a healthy and free society. To accomplish this task, PUM strives to improve business climate, stimulates the creation of new employment and assists with the changeover to cleaner means of production.
Last but not least, PUM mediates between clients and Dutch firms. Co-operation is essential for future development.

Experts on the field of horticulture
In the Netherlands there is a long tradition (over 125 years) of flower and pot plant growing in greenhouses as well outdoors. Holland has the highest agricultural productivity per hectare in the world and has become one of the largest agricultural exporters worldwide. In the fields of innovation, breeding and technology, the know-how of the Dutch flower industry is absolute top in the world.
PUM has about 80 experts to consult in all of the above including grower/entrepeneurs, general farm management as well as consultants in all aspects of the Horticulture chain.
To be more specific, expertise can be deployed in the fields of greenhouse construction, flower design, flower shop design and management, training of retail and wholesale-staff, landscaping design and lay out, automation, farm management, disease and pest control, climate control, substrate cultures, breeders rights, marketing, market information on consumer demands, auction systems, export, internal transport and logistics services.
To support in these fields, a PUM expert can be employed by both Chinese and Dutch small and middle sized horticultural companies as long as they are based in and managed from within China.
